Subject: Thank you for acting to protect Florida's Emerald Coast
Dear Jose,
Thank you for speaking out against the construction of a new
airport on Florida's Emerald Coast that would destroy nearly
2,000 acres of wetlands.
The pine forests, cypress swamps and wetlands of Florida's
Emerald Coast are home to a diverse range of threatened and
endangered species, including sea turtles, Gulf sturgeon, bald
eagles and the Florida black bear. With your help, we can ensure
that this spectacular region remains protected from rampant
commercial development.
Thanks for taking action.
Sincerely,

Recent letter sent to Amazon.com for profitting from animal fighting products:
Dear Amazon.com,
I love your site very much, and I buy from it whenever I am looking for books and videos. However, lately I have been informed of your practices of selling materials that are cruel to animals including animal fighting.
Please stop peddling materials that are both illegal and cruel to animals. I have rescued dogs for many years, and the increase of animal fighting I am witnessing in the news around the country is disheartening.
I hope you have the sensitivity to comply with this small favor.
Thank you

Subject: Thanks for Helping to Save America's Wolves
Dear Jose,
Thank you for taking action to protest the brutal killing of wolves in Alaska by contacting President Bush and Secretary of Interior Kempthorne to urge them to enforce the Federal Airborne Hunting Act.
Together, we can put a stop to this brutal practice and protect Alaska’s majestic wolves.
Do you want to do more to help protect these special creatures?
Here are two things you can do to help today:
Support our work: Your gift will help support legal action and media, public outreach, education, and grassroots efforts to pressure Alaska's government and the Bush administration to stop the aerial killing of Alaska's wolves. Click here to make a secure, tax-deductible online donation to support our work.
Adopt a Wolf: You'll receive a plush wolf and a ready-to-frame adoption certificate and the satisfaction of knowing your adoption fee will help protect wolves and other imperiled creatures.
Again, thanks for taking action. Your efforts are crucial to protect America's wolves and other wildlife for future generations.
Sincerely,

Dear Representative Feeney,
Animal fighting is a cruel and vicious activity that is linked to numerous other crimes and public safety concerns. Please do all you can to get the Animal Fighting Prohibition Enforcement Act on to the House floor for a vote before time runs out on the 109th Congress.
This bill will establish felony penalties to help put an end to inhumane animal fighting. Current law provides only misdemeanor penalties, which are too weak to provide a meaningful deterrent.
I have written to you before and you have always voted positively when it comes to animals' humanely treatment.
Thank you for your attention and continuous support.
Sincerely,
Jose Carmona

Hello Jose,
You recently sent us the following comment:

Dear Ben and Jerry's,
Thank you for adopting a cage-free egg policy, a decision that will lessen the suffering of countless egg-laying hens.
I think that your decision will impact the decision of many animal lovers to buy your ice cream more. Since I have raised chickens for a good number of years of my life. I feel that it is important for these animals to live a fair life. Therefore, I applaud your decision.
Thank you from the bottom of the hearts of my son and me.
Sincerely,
Jose Carmona
All of us here at Ben & Jerry's are happy to tell you that the company is making a total transition to egg suppliers who use "Certified-Humane," cage-free methods to raise their egg-laying hens. That makes us the first national food manufacturer to make this transition. This move is consistent with Ben & Jerry's mission and values, which is something you have been telling us during our review of this and we appreciate your input and support.
You should know that it took us a little longer than we thought to make this transition because of the complications and logistics involved for Ben & Jerry's to find certified-humane cage-free egg suppliers that can deliver the amount of eggs we need and how we need to receive them. It's a lot different than getting eggs at the store. Because of the details involved, this transition will be phased in over a four year period, at which time all of the company's products which use eggs will use only "Certified-Humane" cage-free eggs.
Sincerely,
Rob Michalak

Dear Representative Feeney,
I respectfully urge you to support HR 5909 ("Haley’s Act"). The Act is named for Haley Hilderbrand, a Kansas high school student killed by a tiger who attacked her while she posed with it for her senior photo last year. The attack occurred at a USDA-licensed facility.
HR 5909 would prohibit direct contact between big cats and the public. The bill also requires that the USDA write public safety regulations for animal exhibitor licenses it issues under the Animal Welfare Act (AWA). Fines for violations of the AWA would also be raised.
According to the USDA's Position Statement "Large Wild and Exotic Cats Make Dangerous Pets" (Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service Miscellaneous Publication No. 1560):
Even an animal that is friendly and loving can be very dangerous. In [the USDA's] experience, unsuspecting children and adults have been seriously injured or killed, even when the animals involved were 'only playing.'...."
The State of Kansas has recently passed stronger legislation regulating public exposure to big cats in response to Hailey's untimely death. I urge you and your colleagues to help prevent future tragedies by supporting HR 5909.
Sincerely,

Dear Senator Nelson,
If you have not already, please cosponsor H.R. 503/S. 1915 and vote for this bill to end horse slaughter when it comes to the floor.
Please support Reps. Sweeney, Spratt, Whitfield, and Rahall in the House and Sens. Ensign and Landrieu in the Senate when they go to the floor and ask for your vote on this legislation. As your constituent who cares about horses, I want to see our horses protected from the abuses inherent in the slaughter process. Also, I would like to believe that when the people speak out and Congress takes action, their will is not ignored and our democracy functions as it should.
Congress has now passed several amendments by overwhelming and bipartisan majorities in both the House and Senate to shut down horse slaughter for human consumption. The U.S. Department of Agriculture has refused to implement a ban.
We must pass a permanent ban on the slaughter of American horses for foreign export. I am asking for your immediate help in passing H.R. 503/S. 1915.
We must end this terribly inhumane practice and make sure our horses are never again subjected to the horrors of slaughter for French and Belgian menus. Thank you for your help.
Sincerely,
Jose Carmona
