Phoebe's litter, three weeks old, first feeding from a dish, before it got messy :-)  Cleanup is usually moms job.  Without their mother all seven had to be bathed and blow dried being careful not to allow them to get chilled.  I became mom to this litter of seven.  You may read about their mother on the "In Loving Memory" page.  She is greatly missed.

I am dedicated to my mothers & puppies here at Kingsway. All dogs are cleared for breeding by a board certified Cardiologist and Ophthalmologist. A CBC makes sure all is as it should be. Expectant mothers receive a high quality diet and any necessary supplements during pregnancy. An X-ray a week before the puppies are due is done for the safety of mother & pups alike.  This tells us how many pups to expect & if it appears that all will go well. If heads are larger than the pelvic opening a panned c-section is much safer for both mom & pups.  The emergency vet is shown x-rays & told his services may be needed. Then we wait.

Puppies are born with me in attendance. I stay in the same room with mother & pups for at least 10 days to make sure all is well & assist if needed. Puppies primarily need three things: warmth, nourishment and to be kept impecably clean. My presence assures they get these things & much more. Mom and pups are watched or monitored "by baby monitor" 24 hours a day. Because I live 25 min. from the nearest Emergency vet my Whelping room is set up for many emergency's. My regular vet works closely with me making sure I have the supply's I need, in order to provide care in an emergency. Generally all goes well, but being prepared brings peace of mind.

Once born, puppies are weighed & gently handled each day. At a few days old they receive their first nail trim. These things teach them to except gentle restraint. The pups are exposed to a series of early neurological stimulations that have been proven to help them deal with stress throughout their lives & strengthens their immune system. Pat Hastings recommends the Rules of Sevens in her book, "Another Piece of the Puzzle". By the time our puppies are seven weeks old they have been exposed to many different things all in an effort to give them the best socialization possible. This ensures that they will be confident outgoing puppys who in turn will grow into confidant outgoing adults! Puppies are introduced to loud noises such as TV & music, as well as a vaccume & dishwasher.

When a Puppy goes to its new home it leaves with a puppy package including a health certificate from my veterinarian, enough food for several days, vaccination records & a three generation Pedigree, photos of the parents, & photos of your puppy from the day it was born. Your new baby will leave with a toy which has been in with the litter. This will have the scent of mom and littermates on it and help to comfort your little one. I feel this is important as I have recieved many reports that the toy sent with the puppy stays a favorite long after the pups first birthday, or until it can no longer be repaired. For this reason I also include a little bear blanket that has been in with mom & the litter. These hold up long after the toy has been destroyed and I have been told the puppies love them!

When you go home with a Kingsway puppy you also leave with my support and assistance. You are welcome to contact me at any time over the lifetime of your puppy. I also board any Kingsway puppy/dog. Here they receive a loving home environment so you can rest easy while away. I am not a kennel, for this reason I only board my returning puppies. Feel free to contact me if you would like to schedule a visit.
