Riley Davis ???? - July 05, 2007
While Riley wasn't a Boston Terrier himself, he was a huge fan of his cousin Roxy the BT and accepted all the dogs that came into his life through his family's involvement in Boston Terrier rescue. (Even those ones, like BTCC rescue Georgie, who loved to steal his treats!) Perhaps his understanding nature was due to the fact that Riley was a rescue himself (abandoned on the Alaska Highway in the Yukon) whose luck sure changed when he was taken into the home - and hearts - of the Davis family in BC. Although his actual age was unknown, Riley was probably 14 or 15 when he passed away.
BTCCR would like to acknowledge the generous donation made to our rescue efforts in Riley's name. God's speed Riley. You will be greatly missed.

Texas Winston ???? - January 18, 2008
I have some sad news. Texas Winston has gone to the Rainbow Bridge.
Winston had a very difficult life in Texas and when we picked him up he had
pellets lodged in his hip and spine making walking very difficult. This
semi-paralysis gradually got worse and he was unable to control his bladder
and bowels.
Winston lived out his last years with my next door neighbour John and
despite the horror of his earlier life in Texas, he was a gentle loving soul
who was loved very much by John and his family. I am glad that John had the
courage to let him go when things became too difficult for the little guy.
You may remember Winston gaining some mobility over the summer with his
doggy wheelchair - at least he had a great summer last year. I have
attached the video again for those who have not seen him in action!

I hope that Winston is running free with the other doggies on the other side
of the bridge.
Colleen
Sweet Rest and Godspeed Winston

Zach (BooBooBear) Merritt September 16, 2001 - January 27, 2008
It is with great sadness we announce that our beloved-Boston-boy Zach has passed away. After suffering liver failure, he was euthanized, slipping away peacefully in his "momma's" arms.
Our little french boy said "bonjour" to us on May 6/06, and though our time together was fairly short, we had many fun adventures together...vacations, cottaging, sightseeing, and Zach's personal favourite, lots of swimming. Though he wasn't always the perfect little gentleman, his mischief kept us on our toes and he never failed to make us laugh, yet he could also cuddle up with us like a perfect little angel.
Though are hearts are aching, we wouldn't trade a single moment we had together ... Zach, rest well, you'll be in our hearts forever.

Mr. Bert 2001 - January 28, 2008
Bert: a character wearing a tuxedo.
This sweet soul with a dedication to his ball, and the people that threw it, left this world too soon. He was loved and will be missed by his foster family and his extended family in rescue. To Auntie Val, thanks for the love and kisses and the walks and plays and for the blanket which was always available and to Uncle Bob, thanks for the tireless arms and the endless throws.
Bert is forever in our hearts.

Henderson ???? - November 13, 2007
Henderson came to us in October of 2007 and stole our hearts instantly. The look of wisdom in his eyes was so mesmerizing but you could see the hurt there as well. Henderson loved nothing more than to be curled up next to you on the couch being with his humans. He played quite a bit for an old man at the age of 13 but never let his age be an issue. When he would bark at you to let you know he was ready for some loving you knew that he meant business and there were kisses ready to be delivered.
One night it became quite clear that Henderson was not doing all that great. He had very few teeth and would have difficulty with his breathing on several occassions. Initial tests showed some kidney issues and x-rays revealed an enlarged heart. We think the heart was so large because he had so much love to give and never given the chance to deliver it. Henderson stole our hearts and it pained me to realize that it was time to let him go and let him play with his friends beyond the Rainbow Bridge. I held him in my arms and told him I loved him as he slipped away. Tears flowed for him that night and for several nights
after. Even his foster brother Monty was saddened by his departure.
Henderson, you are missed and still remembered for all that you were. You really personified the purpose of RESCUE and you have a place in our hearts for all time. Your first collar and first sweater will be worn with pride by all others that come into our care until they find their forever homes and the lessons you taught us are forever etched in our minds. Thank you for your love Henderson and we know we will meet again.
Lovingly your Foster Parents

Toad ???? - April 01, 2008
On April 1^st 2008 the days got a little darker as Angie and I said goodbye to our little bundle of light and joy. Toady came to us from the USA and made his mark on the world as a feisty little old man who would just not give up! A true advocate for the spirit of the rescue! After being diagnosed with Cushing's disease and given 3 months to live, in true Toady spirit he said “NO!” and gave us almost 3 years of poops, toots and love nibbles! He became the “shadow” as Angie called him, never leaving her side or letting her out of his sight. As time went on his struggle and age began to show but, his spirit and courage never left.
I would also like to thank Toady who showed us true love and the bond that humans and animals share. He truly left a permanent paw print on all the lives he touched and will be greatly missed my all!
Give all of your Boston’s a big hug from us!
Love Angie and Aaron.

Farley October 27/1998-July 28/2008
It is with infinite sadness that we announce the passing of our sweet boy, Farley.
Farley was a nine year old Boston Terrier who was burdened with epilepsy, hypothyroidism, the removal of a benign tumour and congestive heart failure.
Despite these afflictions, Farley never took a backwards step in his active life.
Over the years , with both veterinary and cardiologist approvals of course, he participated in Agility classes, attended Toronto Blue Jays and St. Michaels Majors hockey team ‘Dog Days’ events, took part in various charity walks, and won First Place in the ‘Best Smile’ category in the 2007 Taste of the Kingsway Dog Show.
Farley also enjoyed going for walks in his two favourite parks, High Park and Centennial, as well as browsing the titles in two local bookstores.
There are so many funny and happy stories I could relate about Farley, from puppyhood to just last week, but one of my favourites is one that shows two of his characteristics; toughness and stubbornness.
Farley enjoyed going to the local indoor dog park, Doggie Central in Mississauga, where he exerted his status as ‘Alpha Dog’ to any dog larger in size than him (this attitude was in evidence back in his ‘Puppy Class’ days, where a trainer described him as a ‘very, very stubborn dog’.).
During one of the indoor dog park visits, there was a massive dog in attendance, one that had to be at least five times the size of Farley. This dog was intimidating to the humans, not to mention all the dogs.
Well, he intimidated all but one dog..
Farley wound up standing face to face with this dog, essentially in a stare down.
As I was formulating an escape plan for my big guy, the other dog lifted his paw, patted Farley on his shoulder, and walked away.
If I did not see this I would not have believed it happened, but the look on Farley’s face said it all; ‘I am the King’.
Unfortunately 2008 was not a good year for Farley or us.
In January he was hospitalized for five days with pneumonia and in late March underwent surgery to correct a Brachycephalic syndrome condition that was diagnosed during his treatment for pneumonia.
However Farley, being a tough guy, came back strong from both challenges and was doing very well and enjoying life until mid-July.
During a visit to his cardiologist it was found that his heart condition was worsening, and a stronger medication was prescribed to hopefully counteract the disease.
On July 28th Farley spent the day at the clinic for a day long check up to monitor the effects of the new medication, with his cardiologist giving him a guardedly optimistic analysis and scheduled a further appointment for mid August.
That evening we had to take Farley back to the clinic, only two hours after his discharge. Part of his heart had shut down and he was suffering from hypoxia.
At 9:00pm that evening we let Farley’s body rest, as he could fight no longer.
Farley made friends wherever he went, due to his good looks, character and personality.
We would like to give thanks to his medical staffs at both the Veterinary Emergency Clinic and the Kingsway Animal Hospital, both of whom described him as an exceptional patient, for their assistance, understanding and support over the years.
Finally, one more Farley story; on the day we picked up Farley from the breeder, we took a transportation box with us, with breathing holes, to keep him safe and secure for the ride home.
We were not even ten minutes into the journey when I felt the top of the box being pushed, and pushed hard, in the attempt to open it.
I relented and opened the box, and ten week old Farley spent the remainder of the trip with his head moving back and forth watching the scenery, with no fear or nervousness of his new surroundings.
That is how Farley spent his life; as a participant, not a spectator and not afraid of new experiences.
Farley was a noble soul and a true friend who contributed significantly to our lives and, he deserved a better fate and a longer life.
We love and miss him greatly.
