Henderson

???? - November 13, 2007

Henderson came to us in October of 2007 and stole our hearts instantly. The look of wisdom in his eyes was so mesmerizing but you could see the hurt there as well. Henderson loved nothing more than to be curled up next to you on the couch being with his humans. He played quite a bit for an old man at the age of 13 but never let his age be an issue. When he would bark at you to let you know he was ready for some loving you knew that he meant business and there were kisses ready to be delivered.

One night it became quite clear that Henderson was not doing all that great. He had very few teeth and would have difficulty with his breathing on several occassions. Initial tests showed some kidney issues and x-rays revealed an enlarged heart. We think the heart was so large because he had so much love to give and never given the chance to deliver it. Henderson stole our hearts and it pained me to realize that it was time to let him go and let him play with his friends beyond the Rainbow Bridge. I held him in my arms and told him I loved him as he slipped away. Tears flowed for him that night and for several nights
after. Even his foster brother Monty was saddened by his departure.

Henderson, you are missed and still remembered for all that you were. You really personified the purpose of RESCUE and you have a place in our hearts for all time. Your first collar and first sweater will be worn with pride by all others that come into our care until they find their forever homes and the lessons you taught us are forever etched in our minds. Thank you for your love Henderson and we know we will meet again.
