Lady Ann

Lady Ann has found her new home! See what her new family has to say about her on our happy tales page!

Lady Ann had a very rough start, but as you can see from her picture, she has learned to smile again. When she wandered into a kind woman's yard, Lady Ann was starving, had lost much of her hair, and had literally hundreds of ticks all over her. The nice woman who found her contacted us and we took her into our program. Her physical condition has improved dramatically with some good food and care. Her hair is growing back soft and beautiful, and she is up to a healthy weight now.

Lady Ann does still suffer from some emotional problems, though these too are improving. We think she must have spent much of her time in an indoor kennel or crate before she came to us, as she was terrified to go outside at her foster home. Her foster mom started working on this problem immediately, and Lady Ann is learning that she can play and have fun outside. Housetraining was difficult because of her fear of the outdoors, but she is doing better now. She still has accidents sometimes, but they are getting less and less frequent.

Lady Ann gets along with the other dogs at her foster home, and does fine with the resident cat as well. She just needs someone now who will be patient with her as she continues to work through her fear.

Spree

Update 4/28 - Spree went home today with a wonderful woman. We wish them both the best of luck in their new life together!

Spree came to us about a year ago as a very young kitten with her mother and siblings. She is the last one left still needing a home. She was a bit shy when she first came to us, but has made a lot of progress and is now quite friendly, though she probably would do best in a home without a ton of excitement.

Spree's only problem is a chronic eye issue. She's been to the vet several times, and has been on different medications to try to cure the problem, but she still occasionally holds one eye slightly closed. The vet concluded that it is the result of a common virus that most cats carry and is aggravated by stress. We've been giving her a special supplement to boost her immune system, and it has helped some, but she still has days where she'll wink at you. Since the problem is stress-related, we are guessing it will improve once she gets into a more stable home environment. For now, we've given her the nickname "Winky" and we continue to monitor her eye. It does not seem to bother her at all, she just looks a bit odd sometimes.

Shadow

Shadow's ship has finally come in. She went home with a new family on Saturday and we hope she will love her new home. Good luck Shadow, have a wonderful life getting all the attention you deserve!

We're not sure exactly why Shadow hasn't found her new home yet. She's incredibly sweet and loving with people. She'll come running to meet you at the door when you get home, purring like mad. She loves to be petted, especially on the top of her head. She's had it rough in her short life, having given birth to at least two litters of kittens. She had one litter when we found her under a dumpster, and we found out too late that she was pregnant yet again. She gave birth to the second litter in August of 2005, safe and warm in one of our foster homes. After spending most of her life taking care of baby kittens, she has now been spayed and is ready for someone to take good care of her for a change. Some people are afraid of black cats for some reason, but Shadow's one that could change their minds. You've got to come and meet her to see just how special she is.

Rosie and Dawson

Update - Rosie has now found her foever home as well. Her family is taking great care of her, and she's settling in well.

Update - Dawson has found a new home, but Rosie is still looking. She has recovered completely from the parvo and is just a sweet puppy looking for someone to play with her and teach her new things. Click on her picture to read more about her.

Rosie and Dawson are two very lucky pups. When they came to us from the pound, they brought parvovirus with them and became very, very sick. We had them treated and thankfully, they pulled through and have recovered without any lasting effects. Treatment can be quite expensive, since it most often involves a stay at the emergency vet for fluids and close monitoring, and we were so grateful to have the money in our bank account to be able to save them. Now that they are healthy, these little ones are looking for new homes.

Missy

Update - Missy has been adopted and is doing great in her new home!

Update - Missy is up to a good weight now, and feeling fine. She is now available for adoption.

This little girl is Missy. She came to us extremely thin, with intestinal worms and some sort of infection. She is still too thin to safely vaccinate. She is on medication now and her foster mom is patiently nursing her back to health. She reports that Missy is now eating solid food and feeling (and looking) much better. She just needs time now to get up to a healthy weight, and she needs to have a few baby teeth pulled that never fell out on their own. She should be good as new in no time now, and once she is, she'll be looking for a home of her own.

Mamie

Update - Mamie is one lucky lady. Before we even listed her for adoption, we found a great home for her. We had a very nice gentleman interested in another dog, but he sounded like a perfect match for Mamie, so we told him about her, and he agreed with us. Mamie will go to her new home once she finishes her heartworm treatment.

This sweet girl is somewhere between 3 and 5 years old and was left behind with her son when her owners moved. She is the unfortunate victim of a very easily preventable problem in this area. Mamie is heartworm positive. She must now go through treatment to get rid of them. Treatment involves a series of shots and medications to kill the heartworms. During the treatment, she must stay very calm to avoid the possibility of a clot forming, which could be fatal. Treatment for heartworms is much more expensive, and dangerous, than monthly preventative, and heartworms are extremely prevalent in this area, which is why we believe all dogs need to be kept current on monthly preventative beginning as young puppies and continued throughout their lives. Mamie will not be available for adoption until after she undergoes treatment and tests heartworm negative.

Handsome Ransom

RANSOM IS HOME! After waiting for over a year, Handsome Ransom has found his new home, along with a new name, Hanson. Read more about his new home on our happy tales page.

Ransom is about the most patient dog you'll ever meet. He's been waiting over a year for the perfect new home. He was found under a bush in the pouring rain with a female dog we named Lady Rena, and her puppies. Despite the cold and rain, Ransom was a loyal companion and wouldn't leave the momma dog and her puppies. We took all of them in to find them new homes. That's when we discovered that Handsome Ransom was heartworm positive. Luckily it was not too advanced and could be treated. Ransom watched patiently as all of the puppies and then Lady Rena were adopted into loving new homes. He transferred his loyalty to them to his human foster mother, following her around in the yard while she works. He lays next to her when she's busy, waiting for her to move to a new place. Ransom is looking for a home with an active family who will take him on walks and do fun things with him. Though he will occasionally mark in the house if not supervised, that is easily remedied with the use of a belly band when he can't be watched. Other than that, he is well-behaved in the house. He just keeps getting overlooked for some reason.

Torie

Update - Torie has been adopted by a wonderful family who just love her to pieces. She has a new canine sibling, and some human siblings as well. Best of luck to you and your new family, Torie!

This gentle giant has a very sad story. She had been bred so many times, over and over again, when we got her, that she was suffering from a condition called a prolapsed vagina and had to undergo an emergency spay surgery. As if that weren't enough, she also had a very high fever, and was infested with fleas. The collar she's wearing in this picture also had to be cut off of her neck because it was so tight, despite the fact that she is at least 30 pounds underweight. This poor girl has obviously been through a lot, but she has a heart of gold and a sweet personality to match it. She will be looking for a new home once she recovers from her ordeal and gets up to a healthy weight.

Chloe

Chloe update - Miss Chloe had a very rough time of it when we took her to be spayed, and ended up at the emergency vet. Her stay there had a happy ending though, as one of the vets treating her fell in love, and asked to make her part of his family. He also quite generously took care of all of her medical treatment. We wish Chloe the best of luck in her new life as a well-loved, well-cared for part of the family!

This is Chloe, another unfortunate girl who has tested positive for heartworms. She was left behind when her owners moved away. A neighbor brought her to us, skinny and smelly, but with a sweet disposition that will melt your heart. She was very patient while we clipped her toenails, one was so long it had actually curled around and was growing into her foot. She enjoyed her bath, which was a good thing since she was so dirty, she had to be bathed twice before she started smelling better! She is happy to be safe in a foster home now with good food to eat and a warm house to live in. She'll undergo treatment for heartworms after she is spayed and will be available for adoption once she tests heartworm negative.

Lacy

Miss Lacy went to a new home and is reported to be doing quite well. We wish her the best of luck with her new family!

Lacy's story has a sad beginning, but we are hoping for a very happy end. She was found wandering all alone, her body extremely thin, her fur matted, and her spirit broken. She came to us and we got her all cleaned up and gave her good food to eat. She was still afraid of new people after her ordeal, but we gave her lots of love and she overcame her fear. She was still a bit overwhelmed by other dogs though, and the other dogs in her foster home scared her. As if being lonely and scared weren't enough, Lacy got out of her kennel at her foster home and was hit by a car. Her leg was broken in three places, her hip dislocated, and her lung was punctured. We weren't sure she'd make it through that first night. Lacy proved to be a tough girl though, and not only survived the night, but survived having her rear leg amputated as well. The vet did not think her leg could be fixed with surgery, and was not even sure amputation would be a good option since Lacy was so scared of everyone at the vet due to the pain she was in. CPS opted for the amputation surgery and Lacy is doing wonderfully now. She gets along as well on three legs as she ever did on four and doesn't even know she's any different. She's over her fear of people and is quite loving with everyone, and she's acclimated to the dogs in her new foster home as well. She even plays nicely with the cat in her foster home. The only lasting issue from Lacy's accident is her need to stay fit and trim so as not to stress her joints. She also takes Glucosamine HCL every day to stay flexible. If you'd like to help Lacy, but don't have the space in your home or life to adopt her, please consider donating to help pay for her surgery and glucosamine.

Tenille

You can see what Tenille's new family says about her on our happy tales page!

Update - Tenille has found her forever home. Her foster mom was quite choosy since she fell in love with Tenille while nursing her back to health, but we finally found a family who met the foster mom's strict standards. We wish Tenille tons of fun with her new family.

This little cutie is Tenille, and believe it or not, she actually looks a lot better in this picture than when we first got her. Her foster mom knew something was wrong when she went to give Tenille breakfast and she didn't want to eat, or even move much. She rushed to the emergency vet and discovered that Tenille had parvo. After a stay at the emergency vet for fluids and plasma transfusions, Tenille pulled through. She is still recovering, so she won't be available for adoption for a while, but she is now playing like a puppy should and will be looking for a new home soon.
