Boxer Rescue Quebec feeds
Nutrition

Nutrition is a very important aspect of a dog's well-being, often impacting his overall health and in many instances, his behavior.

At BRQ, we strongly recommend a holistically based diet and proper nutritional supplements. In many cases, switching to such a diet will avoid extensive veterinary expenses, by preventing many health problems associated with poor nutrition.

A WORD ON POOR QUALITY COMMERCIAL PET FOODS: It is not worth it to purchase poor quality foods just to save some bucks. In the long run,  you will find yourself at the vet's office much more often than you would were your pet on a premium quality food. More importantly, you are compromising your dog's health and well-being by feeding them a low grade kibble.

Much of the pet food industry uses leftovers from parts not fit for human consumption. For example, diseased or old animal carcasses (this includes dead dogs and cats) are used. Slaughterhouse wastes  can increase your pet's risk of getting cancer and other degenerative diseases. Hormones used on livestock or the drugs used to euthanize them are not always destroyed by popular pet food cooking methods such as rendering and extruding. Rendered "meat meals" and by-products may be contaminated with bacteria, espescially when the carcass is not fresh. Dangerous toxins can sometimes find their way to your dog's bowl. These may cause many dogs to vomit, have diarrhea, lose their appetite or,  the most dangerous toxins may cause weight loss, liver damage, lameness, or even death. Many chemicals are also added to the food. These are additives and preservatives such as BTA, BHT and ethoxyquin which are among the most dangerous ones.

Unfortunately, feeding trials are no longer required for a food the meet necessary requirements for misleading food labels such as "complete and balanced". For more information on the commercial pet food industry, go to .... This information is certainly shocking to most of us but the general public must be made aware of these dangerous and unsanitary practices so they know exactly what they are putting in their beloved pets' bodies.

Please make this a topic of conversations with people you know. We must spread the word if anything is going to change in the future!

Diets we recommend (tried and tested!):

EAGLEPACK HOLLISTIC kibble based diet, with hollistic supplements & fresh fruits/veggies:

We have had great success feeding Eaglepack Hollistic with all our dogs, whether it be
rescue dogs or our own pets and show dogs. This diet has completely eliminated our
dog Jada's recurring urinary tract infections for many years now. It is a healthier alternative
to veterinary based diets in many cases, and is well worth investigating. Eaglepack products
have human grade and organic ingredients with multiple protein sources for building muscle
mass (the heart being the biggest muscle in the body!). Also incorporated in the foods are
many important supplements such as friendly yogurt-like cultures(probiotics), digestive
enzymes and glucosamine HCL, just to name a few. These may benefit your beloved pet in
many different areas: coat condition, allergic reactions such as skin irritations (which are
actually a symptom of systemic yeast infection), intestinal flora, urinary tract health(and other
recurring secondary bacterial infections), bloat, digestive upset, immune system, diabetes,
    etc...
Poor quality kibble such as the ones found in supemarkets do not have this nutritional
background. As a result, various problems may occur such as digestive problems, urinary
tract infections, itchy/flaky skin, extreme shedding, ear infections, yeast infections, just to
    name a few.
